Really Changing your IPhow to do it:
- by restarting your modem
To restart your modem, just disconnect it from the electricity for 15 seconds and reconnect it. After verify if your IP has changed by reloading this page and checking what it says your IP is on top of the page.
- from the router's interface
- first login to your router' interface
- find the address of your gateway
- open a command prompt (on Windows: click start and go to "all programs" and "accessories". chose "Command Prompt")
- type "ipconfig" on Windows of "ifconfig" on Linux or Mac
- go to the address of your gateway with your browser
- put the address of the gateway in the address bar of your browser
- press enter or click "Go" or the little green arrow, depending on the model of browser you have
- enter your router username and password
- then release and renew your IP address from the router's interface. The menu of each model of router is different
- Verify if your IP has changed by reloading this page and checking what it says your IP is on top of the page
- from the command prompt
This will only be useful if your computer connects directly to the internet modem. example if you are at home, have only 1 computer connected to the internet and have no router.
Open a command prompt and renew your IP address (on Windows, click "start" go to "all programs", "accessories" and chose "command prompt". Then in the command prompt, type "ipconfig /release" and press enter to release your IP and then type "ipconfig /renew" and press enter to renew it. note that on Vista you need to start the command prompt as an admin to do that, right click on command prompt and chose "run as admin" to open it).
After verify if your IP has changed by reloading this page and checking what it says your IP is on top of the page.
pros:
- you will experience no change in your connection speed
If you make your browser use a proxy then the whole entire browser using the proxy will most likely be more or less slow to connect to everything depending on the performance of the proxy that you are using, thats why when using a proxy on your browser you might find it more comfortable to use multiple browsers and dedicate one to the proxy job. But if you can just get a new IP from your ISP, youre still connecting directly with the same connection speed than usual, just a new ip.
- you will know the new IP will work right away and not be used up already by someone else on Megavideo
When connecting to Megavideo through proxies, it can be time consumming to find a proxy that works and is fast enough and also isnt already burnt up by someone else. When just changing your IP from your ISP you know youre always alone on your IP and most likely the chances that someone else would have previously used that IP on Megavideo are quite slim.
cons:
- it will not work if you have a static IP
Most ISP do not attribute static IP addresses to their client unless they pay an extra for it. So most people who have a static IP should know about it. However i have heard that some companies such as Comcast attribute static IP addresses to all their clients.
- it will not work if you are in a school or hotel or other establishement that uses 1 big connection and you have no control over the main modem
If you are sharing your connection with a large group of people you might have no access to the modem that has the public IP address assigned to it by the ISP. It doesnt matter if you change the ip on the modem that you have in your room (example hotel or dorm) because this will only change the IP address that you have inside the network that you are in. Megavideo only sees your external (public) IP address, which is the one that you see on top of this page.
- it will not work if your ISP uses leases to assign IPs so that when you release and renew your IP you always get the same anyways (many ISPs do that)
I've heard of a lot of people who just disconnect and reconnect to the internet to change their IP so i know its possible and is a quick and easy solution but in my personal case, on all the internet connections that i have had for the last many years, none of them permitted that.
The reason is that most ISP or DHCP servers when they assign an ip address to a client, they also save a *lease in their memory for a certain amount of time (a few hours, a few days...). So whenever a client connects the DHCP server first check in its memory to see if theres already a lease for this client and if yes and if the old IP is still available, it will just reassign the same IP to the client.
DHCP servers will recognize clients because they see the MAC address of each network card (like a serial number). Though they do not transmit your MAC address to the outside world so websites such as Megavideo or others cannot see your MAC address.
Sometimes there are tricks to bypass that but it is more complicated. Like on a connection i had in the past, you could disconnect the ethernet between the modem and my computer and replace it with a USB (that modem had a USB plug they dont all have that) and you would get a new IP, then if you go back on ethernet you would get a new ip again
| Making your browser use a proxyhow to do it:
- First chose a proxy
- get one from proxyfuzz
go to proxyfuzz and pick a proxy from the list. make sure it has an ok response time (10 seconds or less should do) and is passing the POST and GET tests. Also try not to pick the first on top of the list as it has more chances of already having been used by someone else to watch Megavideo, go a few pages further in the list and try to get one that no one else is currently using with Megavideo.
- Google for more lists of open proxies
Google for open proxy list and get yourself a proxy from any of these sites that list them. what you need is an open proxy (address:port) not a web proxy (some website that invites you to put the address that you want to go to in a box and click a button to go their through their proxy service)
- Then put it in your browser's settings:
- on Firefox
- go to "Tools"/"Options"/"Advanced"
- click on the "Network" tab
- click the "Settings" button next to "Configure how Firefox connects to the Internet"
- change from "No proxy" to "Manual proxy configuration"
- put the IP address of the proxy in the box that says "HTTP Proxy:" and the port of the proxy in the box that says "Port:" right after. note if your proxy is 99.99.99.99:9999 the IP address is the part before the colon (:) and the port is the part after
- then click "Ok", "Ok" and reload this page to see if the proxy is working and your IP has changed.
- on Opera
- go to "Tools"/"Preferences"/"Advanced"
- click on "Network" in the little menu on the left
- click on the button that says "Proxy Servers..."
- check the check box next to "HTTP", put the IP of the proxy in the box after and the port in the box for the port
- then click "Ok", "Ok" and reload this page to see if the proxy is working and your IP has changed.
pros:
- Is possible for anyone no matter what is your connection.
For some people it is not possible to change their IP. But setting a proxy on your browser allows you to make the browser connect through that proxy without having to actually change your IP address.
- You internet connection will not be interrupted
Changing your IP means that your connection will have to turn off and turn back on. If you are in a family home and many people are using the same internet or have some systems such as servers ect that are connected to the internet, you might not want to interrupt your connection every once in a while. So just setting your browser to use a proxy is a way that you can access a site from another IP without having to interrupt your connection.
- You dont need to hunt for a new proxy each time
Once you have found a proxy that works well, you should be able to just keep jumping between your normal connection and the proxy to watch undefenetly until the proxy stops working or someone else starts using it.
cons:
- The proxy you will pick could be or already have been used up by someone else to watch megavideo
Theres a lot of people watching megavideo movies at the same time but theres also a lot of proxies, though if you pick the first proxies on the top of the list you have more chances that someone has already been using it up on megavideo or also if 2 use the same proxy it will use it up 2 times faster. Its best to make sure to go a few pages further in the list of proxies and try to get one that is not used by someone else.
- The proxy you will pick could be too slow to properly stream megavideo videos
Megavideo offers videos that are not in such high resolution and it doesnt take a huge amount of bandwidth to stream from Megavideo. So it shouldnt be too hard to find a proxy that is good enough for that. But even still, some proxies are really slow and if it is too slow, well your video wont stream properly. On proxyfuzz you can get a good idea of the speed of a proxy by looking at its response time.
- The proxy you will pick could not work with Megavideo
according to my tests so far, most proxies that work in the first place will work with megavideo too, but a few dont. On proxyfuzz it seems that its mostly these proxies that are failing the "POST" tests that work but do not allow the video to play. The ones that were passing both the "GET" and "POSTS" tests so far all seemed to work
